On the author
I am Dr. Aart Oosterhuis, registered clinical psychologist, clinical neuropsychologist, and psychotherapist. Since 1984, I have been involved in the treatment of sleep problems. As an editorial team member for the Dutch educational channel Teleac, I contributed to the world’s first sleep course broadcast on television. I have written several books and scientific articles on this subject, and in 1994, I earned my Phd at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Groningen with a dissertation on this topic.
"Sleep matters! We are sleeping less and less, and we are paying the price for it! Poor sleep increases the risk of depressive symptoms, anxiety disorders, stress complaints, obesity, and diabetes. Poor sleep is also associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
Many poor sleepers try to improve their sleep with sleeping pills, only to discover that this creates additional problems!
As a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, and editorial team member of the first Teleac sleep courses, I have treated hundreds of people with sleep issues, and I know that better sleep can be learned!"
